OK, so I was going to write the official re-cap of 6/12-6/13 (for some of us) gig, and I got to thinking about the experience a bit. 1st it was GREAT! I think everyone agrees that that was one of the better ones!!! Thanks Harts or whoever put that together….can wait to see everyone at the next one!!!
But, knowing me, I always try to get a little more out of….well the term is, the “synchronicity” of events. Which if you’re not into Jung, it’s the convergence of seemingly random events that culminate in a single organized purpose….got it? There’s a reason I buy wine by the bottleJ
So, after a couple of conversations, and more than a few emails since, with one of my resurrected acquaintances, she and I noticed that we have a lot in common. Not only now, ….but all those years ago regarding personal outlooks and relationships.
My general theory on relationships is that it’s like an open house or party….and you’re the house. Some people just walk past your house because they don’t like something about it…maybe it doesn’t look “right”; maybe the lawn needs to be cut, or shrubs need pruning…etc. I politely wave to these folks and encourage them to keep walking….even though some do stop just to gawk at the ownerJ.
Anyway, some people come inside and leave you with things you will hang on your wall and treasure forever. Other folks show up for some free foodJ. Some people walk in and pocket anything that you haven’t nailed down and hold secure. Still others enter…mess the place up…and then leaveJ.
So as you can see from above about ¾ of folks show up for what they can get, take, or change about/from you and your house; all while you are the most vulnerable in opening up that very house to them. But, on the upside, the folks that add to your décor are priceless…..even if they bring fruit cakeJ.
So, as I look back on the ever-growing road behind me, and no…not talking about my ass, I notice that I’ve hosted quite a few of these parties….probably since I was in high school. So WTF does all this have to do with TF on Friday?? Well, I soon noticed that I was smack dab in the middle of a Garden Party…not mine, but a collective one. So for those of you that gave me something from your house to bring home to mine….Thanks! I’m already making room on the wallJ.
Now, there was a really under-rated singer named Rick Nelson (Ozzie, no not that Ozzy & Harriet Show), from Ridgefield Park, NJ, who I think comes to the same conclusion that my resurrected gal pal and I have come to…..and after a lifetime of hosting Garden Parties, I really just can’t say it any better….so here it is, see below for link and words….
Good luck with your next Garden Party…see you at the next one at TF’s!!!!

Here’s the words:
I went to a garden party
to reminisce with my old friends
A chance to share old memories and play our songs again
When I got to the garden party, they all knew my name
No one recognized me, I didn't look the same
But it's all right now, I learned my lesson well.
You see, ya can't please everyone, so ya got to please yourself
People came from miles around, everyone was there
Yoko brought her walrus, there was magic in the air
'n' over in the corner, much to my surprise
Mr. Hughes hid in Dylan's shoes wearing his disguise
But it's all right now, I learned my lesson well.
You see, ya can't please everyone, so ya got to please yourself
lott-in-dah-dah-dah, lot-in-dah-dah-dah
Played them all the old songs, thought that's why they came
No one heard the music, we didn't look the same
I said hello to "Mary Lou", she belongs to me
When I sang a song about a honky-tonk, it was time to leave
But it's all right now, I learned my lesson well.
You see, ya can't please everyone, so ya got to please yourself
lot-dah-dah-dah (lot-dah-dah-dah) lot-in-dah-dah-dah
Someone opened up a closet door and out stepped Johnny B. Goode
Playing guitar like a-ringin' a bell and lookin' like he should
If you gotta play at garden parties, I wish you a lotta luck
But if memories were all I sang, I rather drive a truck
But it's all right now, I learned my lesson well.
You see, ya can't please everyone, so ya got to please yourself
